She began riding horses on her father's ranch at a very early age, she went on to compete in county fairs with her "high school horse. In 1952 she left home and went to Sarasota, FL. in hopes of attaining a job as a bareback rider with Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. After being turned down with Ringling she then went to the winter quarters of the King Bros Cristiani Circus in Macon, GA. where she was hired.
Barbara was surprised to find the many duties a circus performer had to perform in those days, selling tickets, butchering, and aerial ballet. But she did what it took to perform and move the circus.
In her career Barbara has worked with elephants, bears horses and ponies and other exotic animals.
Barbara was the feature performer of Bob Snowden's King Bros Circus, where she did her bareback act and produced a western concert that performed in between the circus performances. |
